About
A small gallery between Ulaanbaatar and your home
Why Mongolian painting
Mongolia has a deep tradition of painting — from the detailed, jewel-coloured scenes of Mongol zurag to contemporary landscapes of the steppe, the mountains and the Gobi. Very little of it reaches galleries outside the country. We started Mongolian Painting to change that, one painting at a time.
How we work
We work directly with painters in Ulaanbaatar. Our manager there sees every painting in person, photographs it in good light, measures it, and keeps it safe until it sells. What you see on this site is what we have on hand — never a stock photo or a print presented as an original.
When you buy, the painting is packed by hand, photographed sealed, and sent by express courier, insured for its full price. Most paintings travel rolled in a rigid tube, which is the safest and most affordable way to send canvas across the world; a local framer can stretch and frame it for you.
Fair to the artists
Each painting belongs to its artist until it is sold. We agree the artist's share before a painting goes on the wall, and we pay it once your painting has arrived safely and the return window has closed.
